RULE to TARGET 3001!
TARGET 3001! has it's origin in the DOS based Design software R.U.L.E. It is a German acronym which stands for Rechner Unterstützter Leiterplatten Entwurf. Later Rule merged into TARGET 3001! meanwhile this is 25 years ago.
Nevertheless there are customers having old Rule layouts and wish to convert them to TARGET 3001! - Surprise - it works. The Rule files have the file extension *.LAY. We proceed in this example using a Rule file called Plat_A.LAY
TIP: DOS files those days were able to have only eight characters in front of the point and three characters after. In case you had renamed your Rule files showing characters more than that in the meantime, you first need to rename them back.
- unzip this Zip file preferably to the directory you have your Rule project files in. TIP: It is an advantage to have this directory on drive C:, e. G. C/Muell/Rule...
- start the DOS shell by Windows start menu "Program Files" => "Accessories" => "DOS Shell" (don't really know whether it calls that way) or by the key combination [Windows + R].
- enter the command: R2T.EXE Plat_A.LAY Plat_A.TAR
- a file "Plat_A.TAR" will be generated, see lower arrow.
- start "V3FROM21.EXE" which you had unpacked to your Rule file directory. No need to to it by the DOS shell because it is a Win32 program so just doubleclick it in the Windows Explorer. This program is German language.
- Select in menu "Konvertieren" => "TARGET-Datei konvertieren":
- A dialog will open, from where you can select the Plat_A.TAR from the list. Press "OK"
- Now the file Plat_A.T3 will be generated which can be opened by the current TARGET 3001! directly
Good luck! :-)
