If you want to mount a resistor upright standing, let's say like this:
please first act the same as if you wanted to import it lying. When importing the package to the layout don't use the package proposal (blue) or the "Free package" option but tick the box: "Use different package" within the package list:
But prior to the finite placement in the layout, the dialog "Import package" opens. Now choose a one upright standing (vertical), for example:
